Back to Nature - The Undergrowth

August 1, 2019

Wherever I venture to artistically, I think I will always come back to nature, in particular, as mentioned before, the unsung heroes of nature. The bits that people over-look or take for granted. The bits that people generally do not behold has beautiful and with no regard will trample on as they fix on more familiar shapes and colours at eye level. At foot is where I see the beauty in a tangled mess of bramble and the fight between nettles and ferns and last season's woody stems. I love the surprises of colour within the unattractively named scrub and undergrowth.  This piece has a more modernistic approach to my usual style. I loved playing with the metallics. I wanted to capture that early morning glow that pours through the gaps in the woodland.
